Freeman Bucktooth

Coach

Freeman Bucktooth grew up on the Onondaga Indian Territory, where lacrosse was not just a sport but a living tradition woven into daily village life. From a young age, he traveled with his father, playing and connecting with teams across the Six Nations Confederacy including the Seneca, Tuscarora, Mohawk, Oneida, and Cayuga. These experiences instilled in him a deep understanding of the Medicine of the game, which has continued to shape lifelong friendships both on and off the field.

Freeman has dedicated much of his life to coaching and leadership within the lacrosse community. He has coached every level of the Haudenosaunee youth system from Peanuts (ages 4–6) through Juniors (ages 19–21) as well as men’s teams, high school programs, and the Syracuse professional team. As a coach for the Iroquois Nationals, he proudly helped lead the team to its first World Championship medal, earning a historic Bronze.

Currently serving on the Haudenosaunee Board of Directors, Freeman brings not only his decades of coaching experience but also his cultural insight into the history and meaning of lacrosse. His perspective ensures that the game is always honored as more than competition. It is a way of life, a medicine, and a bond between generations.

When he is not coaching or mentoring, Freeman can often be found hunting, fishing, or golfing with the same friends and teammates he first met through the game of lacrosse.
