Doug Bartlett

Coach

Doug Bartlett has dedicated his career to coaching, mentoring, and building the sport of lacrosse. He spent over 20 years as Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach at the Virginia Military Institute, where he guided the program to nine winning seasons and created a culture of discipline and resilience. His leadership on the field was matched by his vision off it, expanding VMI’s lacrosse funding from just two scholarships to more than ten.

In addition to his collegiate coaching career, Doug has been deeply involved in player development through The Lacrosse Academy, his nationally recognized teaching camps that pioneered one-on-one instruction and shaped athletes across Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Ohio. He has also contributed internationally as an assistant coach with the Luxembourg Men’s National Team, working to grow the game on a global stage.

Doug’s impact has been recognized by the USILA, which inducted him as a USILA/Nike North-South Legendary Coach. He has also chaired and coached multiple North-South All-Star Games, further cementing his reputation as a respected voice in the sport. Beyond coaching, Doug served as Vice President of the VMI Keydet Club, raising critical support for athletic programs and building lifelong alumni connections.

Most recently, he returned to the sidelines at Denison University in 2022–23, coaching alongside his daughter Maiah in a history-making season that saw the Big Red finish 14-6, capture the NCAC Championship, and advance to the NCAA Sweet 16.

A coach, mentor, and fundraiser, Doug continues to embody his lifelong philosophy: to leave the game — and every room he enters — better than he found it.
